Attorney Calvin P. Johnson
He specializes in practicing criminal defense. He has tried numerous cases and contested Pre-Trial hearings. He is a strong advocate for the accused.
Calvin is the former Chief Public Defender of the Fifth Judicial District, comprising 15 counties in Southern Minnesota. He started the first full-time public defender office in out-state Minnesota. He is a member of the Minnesota Bar Association and National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
He has worked extensively with the judges and prosecutors in this area. He takes significant time developing relationships that enable open communication and forthrightness in his negotiations.
He has handled murder, criminal sexual conduct, theft, embezzlement, drug cases, DWI/DUI's, welfare fraud, computer fraud, white collar crime, motor vehicle forfeitures, license plate forfeiture, and practically every kind of criminal case imaginable. Search and seizure, unlawful arrests and suppression of evidence, including the results of alcohol tests, comprise a large portion of his practice.
Calvin urges extensive consideration for his clients in understanding their case. He wants you to feel safe and secure, and to understand the system. He wants his client to understand all available options, and to take responsibility for the direction of their case. He strongly urges the client to consider all of the ramifications of his/her actions, and to address those elements that can be improved.
He is a strong proponent of freedom of choice in health care, and worked for 6 years on the famous milk-farmer case, involving fraud and practicing medicine without a license.

Attorney Brian D. Roverud
Brian Roverud brings extensive experience to the Calvin P. Johnson Law Firm, working for the rights of the accused, as well as a variety of other important legal matters.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, where he trained as an Arab Linguist, Brian completed a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Minnesota. Prior to being admitted to the Bar, Brian was a Federal Investigator for the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Brian completed his law degree at the William Mitchell College of Law, where he graduated with honors in 1982. Since then, Brian has served as a prosecutor and defense attorney, on both civil and criminal cases in the public and private sectors.
Brian began his legal career with a Kandiyohi County law firm, which also acted as the County Attorney’s office. He then practiced with a private firm in Blue Earth where he handled civil and criminal cases, represented cities and private clients in criminal cases, handled personal injury cases, real estate, family law, estate planning, taxes, and contracts.
In 1998, Brian was elected Faribault County Attorney. He held the position of County Attorney from 1998 to 2010, handling every type of criminal case and civil matter, for the County. Criminal cases included murders, drugs, sexual assaults, fraud, and domestic abuse. Civil matters included land use, child protection and support, and general civil litigation.
Together, Calvin and Brian are diligent advocates for the rights of the individual. Justice and constitutional rights are paramount in our legal practice.
